Jakarta, MINA – An environmental community called Greenlentik was formed from an idea that came out of a casual discussion among its founders, who were concerned about the impact of household waste on environmental sustainability.

Co-founders of Greenlentik, Karindra Asri and Neni Prahasti, emphasized that the community’s purpose is to save the earth from the waste crisis while empowering women who have been economically marginalized and helping them become self-reliant.

Greenlentik also integrates waste management activities with environmental education to raise public awareness that waste, particularly plastic and textile-based waste, can damage the environment and has been a significant contributor to environmental degradation.

Uniquely, Greenlentik transforms waste not just by collecting and disposing of it, but by processing it into creative products with commercial value, named the 4Etnik product line.

According to the two co-founders of Greenlentik, this community is not merely an expression of concern and love for the environment, but also serves as a space for social inclusion. For instance, ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of these products will be donated to the Palestinian people.

“We want to convey that waste can become a new resource if managed wisely. Through the 4Etnik products, we aim to create concrete solutions while opening business opportunities for women and fostering social inclusion,” said Asri, one of Greenlentik’s Co-Founders, on Thursday (July 10) at the Greenlentik community office.

The 4Etnik products blend local cultural elements with recycling principles, creating eco-friendly and artistically refined items such as bags, wallets, and home decor. The production process involves young women and single mothers who are trained to develop skills and achieve economic independence.

Greenlentik is currently expanding its community reach across various regions, aiming to become a model for community movements that combine environmental concern and women’s empowerment for social enterprise development.

“Our vision is to create a waste-free environment while empowering communities and strengthening family economies. With a spirit of cooperation, we believe significant change can begin with small steps at home,” she added.

The Greenlentik movement serves as a concrete example of how community collaboration and awareness can address two major national challenges: waste management and social inequality.
