Jakarta, MINA – In commemoration of Environment Day, the Greenlentik community introduced an innovation in waste management that turns trash into marketable products as a means of community empowerment. The event was held at the Clean Ciliwung River Movement (GCB) office in Jakarta on Friday (June 13).
Greenlentik founder Rini Ismiati stated that this initiative aims not only to protect the environment from damage caused by waste but also to empower women to achieve economic prosperity while maintaining environmental sustainability.
“Through the training and mentoring we provide, single mothers not only learn to sort and process waste but also create marketable craft products such as bags, wallets, and home decorations. This becomes a path to empowerment and economic independence for them,” she said.
Greenlentik itself is a community focused on environmental and social issues, with an empowerment approach through creative recycling.
This program creates agents of change for sustainability through small actions that can have a significant impact. Those directly affected by the waste crisis and limited economic access.
Rini added that environmental awareness must be accompanied by practical solutions that directly benefit the community.
“Celebrating World Environment Day is not just a ceremony, but a moment to reaffirm that big changes begin with consistent small steps. And women, especially those who are raising children on their own, play a strategic role in that change,” she said.
Through an approach that addresses both social and spiritual aspects, Rini hopes that such programs can inspire more communities to join the environmental conservation movement while also strengthening the economy of the people.
World Environment Day, observed every June 5, serves as a global reflection on the importance of preserving the earth as a trust from Allah SWT. Indonesia itself still faces significant challenges in waste management, particularly in major cities like Jakarta.
