On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Depok City Detention Center, GREENLENTIK, in collaboration with Vocational Education of the University of Indonesia, held a program titled “Empowerment of Female Inmates through the Srikandi Mandiri and Tangguh Program.”

This initiative aims to provide education and skills in Green Craft, specifically Upcycled Product creation, to 40 female inmates. The participants were introduced to the environmental dangers of waste, particularly plastic and textile waste, emphasizing the importance of wise management—one way being transforming waste into valuable upcycled products. The inmates then took part in hands-on workshops to practice creating these products. Despite being made from discarded materials, such products can become a source of sustainable income when developed for both local and global markets.

It is hoped that this program will equip female inmates with new skills and serve as a foundation for economic independence.

Rini, the founder of GREENLENTIK, stated that the program must be sustainable:

“After training, there must be regular mentoring sessions to monitor the challenges faced by the participants—how they maintain product quality, how to keep their motivation to continue learning, and how to start micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) while building self-confidence,” Rini emphasized.

If successful, the program will enable inmates who have completed their sentences to start their own businesses and achieve economic self-reliance. This empowerment approach is expected to reduce the risk of recidivism (repeated offenses).

Rini concluded the event by affirming that GREENLENTIK will always be a “second home” for former inmates—a space where they can continue to learn, grow their businesses, and spread kindness and positive impact together.

“GREENLENTIK doesn’t just teach how to make upcycled products—we open new hopes, teaching them to see themselves as part of the solution, not the problem. The products they create symbolize inner strength and are living proof that hope exists and change is always possible.”

Together, we realize the movement:

“Empowered Women, Prosperous Economy, Sustainable Environment.”
