Used Crackle and Stenciled Fabric Training Towards Sustainable Business and UMKM Moving Forward

SIDOARJO, May 23, 2024 – As part of the effort to provide global solutions, GreenLentik initiated the first training program in Taman Suko Asri Housing for PKK RW 08 Suko Asri Village women by utilizing plastic waste (crackle) and patchwork into crafts in the form of high-value “tote bags”. The training, which was attended by 29 mothers of PKK Suko Asri Village, was held for 4 hours with several materials, namely, the dangers of plastic waste (crackle) and rags that are difficult to decompose and threaten the environment, the management of plastic waste (crackle) and rags into high-value works, green business development opportunities / sustainable business / environmentally friendly business, and continued with the practice of making “tote bags”.

With the theme “Used Crackle – Stenciled Fabric, Rupiah Boosters, Empowered Women, Abundant Economy, and Protected Environment” it is hoped that participants can contribute to environmental preservation and gain skills and knowledge to take advantage of opportunities to build a green business / sustainable business / environmentally friendly business. In addition, the development of the business can also be a strengthening of the mothers’ family economy. However, mentoring is required as ongoing training.

One of the participants, the Head of PKK RW 08, Purwati Retnani Sari, admitted that she was helped by this training. “This creative and innovative training is very helpful for mothers to be creative and open new insights,” she said. “Thank you to greenlentik for holding this training on works from plastic waste (crackle) and patchwork, it is very useful and we are waiting for the next training,” she added.

Still according to Purwati Retnani Sari, the work in the form of “tote bags” from plastic waste (crackle) and patchwork will be included in bazaar activities and exhibitions. It is hoped that there will be new creations from the creativity of processed household waste. Creations that have use value and selling value for the people of Suko Asri Village and can contribute to environmental conservation.

Meanwhile, greenlentik CEO, Rini Ismiati said that the training was well received and the enthusiasm of the participants was one of the keys to the success of the training. The enthusiasm of the participants was shown by active questions and answers and very creative works. In addition to the training aiming to educate participants in the management of plastic waste (crackle) and patchwork, it also opens the horizon of thinking that there is a great opportunity to develop a green business / sustainable business / environmentally friendly business. Businesses that can be started from a small neighborhood or village, if done professionally, will be able to contribute greatly to the economy and environmental preservation.

From a small environment that is successfully educated and fostered through various sustainable training will be able to create “agents of change for sustainability”, said Rini.
